Summer Learning Journey

Activity 2: Fabulous Ferns [4 points]   One of the most common plants found in New Zealand forests is the fern. It is a special, iconic symbol of New Zealand. You will find pictures of ferns on the jerseys of many famous sporting teams in New Zealand, including the New Zealand All Blacks.  Did you know that many of these teams also have the word ‘fern’ in their name? Use your best researching skills to find three New Zealand sporting teams who use the word ‘fern’ in their title.   On your blog list three sports teams that have the word ‘fern’ in their title. Beside each team’s name, post a picture of their uniform. Then, at the bottom of your blog post tell us which of the three uniforms you like best and why.

    Hi Ella,

    It's great to see you using images to illustrate your blog posts. Every time that we use an image on our blog, it's really important that we tell our readers where we found it, and give credit to the owner of the picture. To properly credit a picture you will need to include a link to the site where you found the image. We have created a guide that you might find helpful. You can check it out here:

    I love the way you have placed medals beside the uniforms to show how they rank to you, that's so creative! You have found three sports teams in New Zealand with the name "fern" in them, terrific job! I like your reason for why the Silver Ferns' uniform is your favourite, you make a good point, it really is convenient having one piece. My socks are always missing and running away from each other! Do you like your school uniform? Why or why not? Do you prefer to wear your own clothes to school everyday? When I was at school, I enjoyed wearing a school uniform because it saved me time since I didn't have to pick what I wanted to wear every morning.

    My name is Hinerangi, I go to Pt England School located in East Auckland Glen Innes. "WOW" What another days work of blogging. I love how active you are becoming by just blogging, I am currently commenting as I have completed all the tasks of SLJ. I love this post so much as sports is one of my favourite things to do, ever. I would agree with the final answer you have chosen as Netball is one of the sports I have played for several of years, Isn't that surprising? I love your work and the amount of effort you have putted into this and the rest of your blog posts.

    Do you know any other team names you know that plays sports, only having them with Ferns in the sport?
